Enrico Crispolti
"I believe the natural evolution of the phases of his lifelong study were heavily dependent upon the strength of values present in the intellectual deliberations which run all the way through his work. Thus the syntheticism of figurative allusiveness noticable in the middle of the decade, whereas towards the end, one can identify a dialectic between the synthetically allusive and the abstract - within the same context of the same painting - to the point where it dominates the whole construction, as happened at the beginning of the 1940's. When, nevertheless, formal or organic attitudes are struck and slipped in, whose genetic origins are in the spatial fluctuations of organic entities suggested during those same years in the 'forties (the purpose of his one - man show in Venice in 1944), and developed during the latter part of that decade, the the fundamental question of a revelatory role, of an Epiphany then, of the luminous element, is set up."
